The Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (hereinafter referred to as “the Authority”) has been established under the BERA Act, 2016 (No. 13 0f 2016) (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”) for the regulation of the energy sector in Botswana. The Authority is responsible for providing an efficient regulatory framework for the regulated sector in accordance with the Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority Act. Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority has an exciting opportunity for a self-driven and visionary leader for the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Our client in the Energy Regulatory sector, BERA requires the services of a knowledgeable, highly experienced, and self-driven individual for the following position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

DURATION:
36 – 60 MONTHS CONTRACT

Main Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Board, the CEO will be responsible for leading and directing the vision, mission, strategy and operations of the Authority as mandated by the Act to promote the development of a competitive, diverse, affordable and a sustainable energy sector.

Position Prerequisites 
Qualification
• Degree in, Economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Finance, Law or related
disciplines.
• Master’s degree in Business or any related field will be an added advantage.

Experience
• Minimum of 15 years’ post qualification experience with at least 10 years at Senior/ an Executive role. At least 5
years’ experience in a Regulatory environment will be an added advantage.
• Legal Certification / Professional Membership (s): Professional Certification in the above disciplines.
Project management certification such as Prince 2 would be an added advantage Change management
certification would be an added ad

Responsibilities
• Provide strategic and operational leadership and management of the work of BERA staff in support of the regulatory functions of the Authority to ensure the efficient and effective regulation of the Electricity,
Petroleum and Gas sectors.
• Advises the Board in particular, the Ministry, Government in general, on issues affecting the electricity, petroleum, and gas sectors.
• Manage financial and physical resources of the Authority economically, efficiently, effectively and in accordance
with prudent management practices and in the spirit and requirements of the Public Finance Management
Act.
• Provide regulatory support to the Authority, including preparing for Regulator meetings and papers for
its consideration and supervising the execution of regulatory decisions of the Regulator on the Electricity,
Petroleum and Gas sectors as prescribed by legislation, regulation, and stated Government policy.
• Leads the Authority in public consultations regarding regulations, rules, guidelines, codes of conduct, codes
of practice and directives for effective regulation of the electricity, petroleum, and gas sectors.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of industry developments; review the physical and economic
impact of licensees’ energy facilities to ensure continued relevance of BERA’s decisions and regulatory framework.
